"To find some meaning to Manila, to know what gives it life and what makes the city what it is,
one has to be an urban archaeologist. You really have to dig around."
"It takes real commitment to live in Manila"
--Augusto Villalon

What is Manila like? Manila is a crazy city. There's a wonderful cacophony of sights and sounds from the decked out jeepneys, to the wonderfully gothic off the beaten track mausoleums, to the sexy starlets festooned on movie posters and tabloids, to the colorful nighttime decadence. It's a city can test your patience. Transportation debacles, pollution, garbage, floods, corruption and red tape can drive you nuts.
Yet it is also a city where you can find beauty in a child's smile and warmth in simple Sunday night family dinners. It's also where you can make some of the best friends you'll have in the whole world.

Rise and shine Manila! The city wakes up and comes to life as the work and school week begins.
