Not even the financial power and the multinational companies, which in this century have had a major influence on city development, managed to take over Oslo. Cities like New York or Frankfurt cannot be imagined without all those skyscrapers the multinationals have built as an homage to their monumental image. In Oslo Norsk Hydro is staying in a grey OBOS-building in Bygdøy allé, but it is going to disappear in the suburbs around the Vackerø area. Aker RGI owns a building in the architectural supermarket of Aker Brygge. Kværner has moved its headquarters abroad, Telenor is planning to do the same and none of the multinationals is ever coming even close to the city centre.
