The years of Nazi occupation have left a deep scar, and nobody likes to talk about it. In the recent elections the neo-fascist Freedom Party became the second largest party in the country, leaving many Viennese horrified.

Herta told me a story about the Nazis. One day she and lots of other schoolchildren were forced to go to watch Chancellor Hitler speak in a public square. The Nazis was filming the speech for propaganda use, but there actually weren't many people there. So they made the children move around the square in groups while they filmed the small crowd from different angles. That way it looked like the square was packed.

"We weren't impressed," says Herta.
